Fluffy Cotton Christmas Trees

These fluffy cotton Christmas trees add a soft touch to our mantle decor. My favorite kind of DIY is the kind you stumble upon accidentally and this one absolutely fits that bill!

As I explain in the Warm + Cozy Christmas post, I found cotton piping by accident in the aisle of Hobby Lobby. I later discovered by accident that if you remove the thread casing, it becomes a soft and fluffy fiber to work with!

Using Dollar Tree foam cones as the base and 2 yards of cotton piping unraveled, you can whip up a small forest in no time (and with little $$$).

Supplies

Dollar Tree foam cones

2 yards 12/32″ cotton piping per tree

1 Dollar Tree cylinder gift box

Aleene’s Tacky Glue

Directions

1. Carefully cut a few inches of the thread casing on the piping with either small scissors or a seam ripper. You’ll want them sharp!

2. Unravel and “fluff” the piping. The casing will still remain on one side. Basically unfold the piping where you cut the casing.

3. Starting at the base of the cone, alternate adding one bead of glue around the circumference of the cone with attaching the fluffed piping.

5. Just go a few inches at a time and work your way to the top! It took me awhile to figure out the best method but once I had a rhythm, the process is very quick.

6. Once the cone is covered and everything is glued down, go back and fluff any areas that need adjusted.

7. Separate the cylinder gift box. Paint to resemble bark. Attach one tree to each piece of the gift box for the perfect staggered set!

I love the softness of this set paired with the Dollar Tree Pinecone Tree! And I bet NO ONE will believe the cotton trees only costs $2.50 to make. Well, I will. So tell me if you make them!
