For our Warm + Cozy Christmas, my heart was set on a linen fabric garland for the mantle. I saw a felt version for $25 at the store and knew I could recreate it for pennies.
With just a half yard of linen cotton fabric, a few beads I had on hand and a couple tv shows, I have a linen poinsettia garland I love more than the one in the store!
This project is incredibly simple – the most time consuming part is cutting out the fabric flower layers. The extra attention to detail will make your linen poinsettia flower garland the star of the Christmas show!
Supplies to make 1 7ft garland
1/4 yard linen cotton fabric
Poinsettia Flower Template
Aleene’s Tacky Glue
Small neutral seed beads – 6 per flower
7ft Twine or Ribbon
Scissors
Directions
1. Print and cut the Poinsettia Flower Template. I used my Cricut Explore Air 2, but you can cut by hand! Here are the templates for standard printer or Cricut machine.
2. With the fabric folded in half (as in comes off the bolt), trace and cut 6 of each flower size.
3. Separate the flowers by size and get ready to make an assembly line!
4. Using Aleene’s Tacky glue, attach the three flower layers. Rotate each layer so the petals intertwine. When you press down to flatten, some glue may seep through the back, so protect your work area!
5. Once dry, add a small “glob” of glue to the center of each flower. Carefully place 6 neutral seed beads in the glue. Let dry fully!
6. Once you’ve made all your flowers, attach them to twine or ribbon every 6 inches with Aleene’s Tacky Glue. Aleene’s is so perfect for this project because it dries clear and is lighter than hot glue once dried. My woven ribbon was a little wrinkled so I ironed it out with my straightener! Worked like a charm.
I love the holiday, but neutral touch this garland adds to our mantle and banister! Add in the cotton tassel garland and jingle bell garland for a Warm + Cozy Christmas in your home!
