Welcome to week six of our OneRoomChallenge! We’re on the homestretch… so it’s textile week!
It’s a small room, so there aren’t a lot of pockets to add fabric. But these layers of softness are so important for adding texture and color! I basically have three area to address: bedding, pillows and curtains. And goodness am I excited!!
Bedding
If you have kids, you know the reality: sheets get gross! Middle of the night blowouts are a real thing. And for that reason, I can’t bring myself to spend a large amount of money on something that’s just going to get dirty and stained.
So I purchased two affordable jersey knit crib sheets from Target and splurged on one custom sheets. But there’s a twist – I designed the pattern! Yes, I used a print-on-demand company to upload and print my Nantucket design on jersey sheets. So cool, right!?
I can go into greater detail regarding how to do this in another post, but the gist is this… I used my iPad and an app called Procreate to make an image. Then I exported it to my computer to upload to Adobe Illustrator and turn it into a pattern. From there it was just a matter of uploading and ordering from Gooten.com.
I also purchased a new crib skirt. This is really only needed in the early days when the mattress is high, but I do love the softness it adds!
Pillows
I had several throw pillows that we aren’t using anymore stashed in the closet. I found that purchasing the zip on covers was actually pretty affordable. So thanks to Amazon, I fell in love with a FUN coral and aqua pom pom cover. I ended up with a new high quality pillow for $15. Just love the color and personality it adds!
Throw
This is the best value throw you’ll find on Amazon. We have one on our sofa downstairs and it is perfect. You’ll want to wash it before use, but then it’ll be cozy and warm!
I learned to keep a blanket nearby for those late night feedings with my first. This one fits the bill!
Curtain Dilemma
Our original plan was to install plantation shutters now on all of our upstairs windows to match our lower level. But due to the quarantine, lead time is running about six weeks behind. Luckily I saved a set of dropcloth curtains with blackout lining from a previous home!
But I hung them up over the door to let wrinkles fall out and now I’m afraid they’re too bulky for the space. That’s option A.
I’m also in the process of redoing our 3 year old’s room and recently purchased new curtain panels for him. Sooooo…..
I have the curtains I made for his room available as option B.
And y’all… they’re so cool!
Long story short, I collected white and offwhite men’s shirts from thrift stores for a couple years. I’ve made a lot of projects with them! (Full post or even a BOOK coming sometime.)
When we did his nursery, inspiration struck to turn them into curtain panels. A bunch of straight cuts and straight seams later and we have a really darling treatment. My favorite part is how I used the cuffs for tabs!
But…. these are not quite wide enough to cover the entire window. So, I would have to do a double rod with another set of panels behind.
Or… I can just nix the panels and hold out until we can get those pretty plantation shutters installed. That’s option C.
What do you think I should do!?!
Final Pieces
All the pieces are here to finish up the room! Just need one night of my husband’s help to hang everything on the walls. My 35 week pregnant belly is too big. (Andddd… he put a lot of time into get the walls fresh and perfect… and my hanging is like my sewing… I just eyeball it!)
Can’t wait to share the final room reveal with you next week!! EEEEKKK it’s so good!!!
I can’t wait to learn how you got the print you made onto the sheets!
